The one where Santa brought gnomes

I am convinced I could sew these gnomes, day after day, and never tire of it.

Meet Mr. & Mrs. Gnome, from the Wee Wonderfuls pattern by the same name. I made these for Eleanor and Graham and left them under the tree with Santa’s gifts. Our kids were gnomes for Halloween this year, so I thought it was a perfect end for 2010, the Year of the Gnome.

I swapped some quilting fabric- for the shirt, pants and shoes- in place of the “all felt” that the pattern called for. It worked out pretty well! I just added a quarter inch to the outfit (the hand part), the top of the boots and the top of the pants. It was the first time I’d sewn with true wool felt and it was soooo wonderful to use. I’ve used the cheap felt from Joann’s a million times, but this was fantastic. I hadn’t seen a bright color selection in any stores in KC, so I ordered it from Weir Crafts.

The kids think they are neat and all, which is nice. They aren’t exactly at the “my mom made this for me and I love her for it” stage. But the ultimate compliment was when I showed them to my husband and he asked me where I bought them. Infinite bonus points were awarded to him! He’s a keeper. Even more so after he surprised me with this for Christmas! A gift certificate to Bon Bon in Westport. Seriously, how cute is that phrase at the bottom?! Now to decide which shot cottons I’ll spend it all on….

Thanks, Carla! As you can tell… I wasn’t in town for the meeting. Boo hoo!

You have grandchildren. They need gnomes. Just think of all of the cute clothing you could pick out from your stash!
