Seeing Squares: The Cover Girl

Oh, how I love that quilt on the cover. Want to know something funny? It wasn’t what I initially planned. I’d planned for the green and blue prints version to be the cover, but in the middle of the photo shoot (while I was standing behind that nifty teal blue door) I heard Angela and Sarah murmuring about the one made from solids. I said, “What? You’re thinking this is the cover aren’t you.” I knew it because, once we started with the photos of that quilt, I totally thought the same thing.
Paula, one of my testers, gets the credit not only for making the “Cover Girl” quilt, but also the credit for picking all of those amazing Kona Solids for the quilt top. When I asked her to test it, I just asked her to make it from some solids- her choice of color scheme, since she’d be keeping the quilt. Paula is one woman who has a Kona Solids Color Card and isn’t afraid to use it! She quickly got back to me with a list of colors and I was all for it.
Just in case you are interested in making the quilt as it is shown on the cover, the exact colors and amounts used are included inside the pattern. I’m already planning to remake this quilt in Paula’s color choices, since the cover quilt is hers to keep. I mean, really. How could I not own a version of my own “Cover Girl?”
Maybe Paula won’t notice if I never return hers…..
Tomorrow, I’ll share some detailed photos of the baby quilt version I made from Seeing Squares. Believe me, you’ll want to see Angela’s work up close. Amazing!
Just think of the quilt color combinations that could come from this! Eek!

Great Pattern! Great Colors! Great Gals! Congrats to You and to Paula!
I’m not one for picking the exact same colors as a pattern, but in this case, I’m all for it. Paula did a spectacular job. I can’t wait to start ordering fabric!
Your pattern produces stellar results from various mixes of fabric colorways, huh? Such a striking quilt using those richly hued Kona solids! Love the pieced backing I saw, too.
Thanks, Anne. I have a post planned for next week, showing how the quilt would look in a few different color schemes. Stay tuned!
This is such a brilliant pattern Shea! Congratulations. Really visually stunning, in all three versions. You must be very proud!
Oh, thank you. I am so very excited about this pattern finally being ‘out there.’ I am proud of the look it has, but most importantly I am proud of the way the directions are written and illustrated. I CANNOT wait to see others start to pop up!
I’m so glad to hear you’ve included Paula’s color choices. They are so beautiful together. What an amazing eye for color she has!
This quilt is beautiful. I love the color combination of the solids, they zing and pop so delightfully, and I think that maybe I need to make this one for my son.
