Happiness is…
…deciding to buy Best Press by the gallon.
For real, people. If you have not tasted the Best Press kool-aide, you are missing out. I only learned about it two years ago from some people in the KCMQG. It makes pressing seams so dreamy. And it smells lovely, too. We’re talking super flat seams that — get this — STAY flat! I like to mist and press fabric with it when I know I’ll be cutting triangles or cutting on the bias. It keeps things from stretching and warping.
In other news, the pattern giveaway winners are Chancy, Jetgirl and Annette! I’ve e-mailed the winners so they can pick out a pattern. Thanks to everyone who played along. It is reassuring to read the things we have all struggled with as we learn more and more about sewing. Just as soon as we check off a newly acquired skill, we have another to learn! Thank you, also, for the kind compliments on the new pattern. I really loved making it and hearing that feedback is so much appreciated.
Now, go try some Best Press! Unless, of course, you are as addicted as I am.

I’m drinking the kool-aide! I can’t get enough! I don’t know why I didn’t think of buying it by the gallon. Thanks for the tip!
You really should go for the gallon. It saves quite a bit of money. Though… wait a minute! You wouldn’t pay retail anyway! :)
My mom got me hooked this summer :) I’d iron everything with it but I hold back and just use it for sewing and for those dark pants that usually get flaky with regular spray starch. This stuff is MAGIC! I didn’t know it came in gallon size but I did pick up a smaller than normal size to take to a retreat.
Where did you find it my the gallon?
Amazon.com! It’s not cheap stuff, but buying it by the gallon does save a decent chuck of money! Free shipping, too!
Thanks for the recommendation. I definitely want to try it out. So you spray it on before you cut or after you cut but before you sew?
I do like the Best Press, but when I ran out and needed a light starch, I tried the aerosol-free Niagara starch. It works just as well, no flakiness! But it doesn’t smell as great, that’s for sure.
I had actually forgotten how great it can be to starch a quilt block so everything lays flat until I read this post, so thank you for the reminder! I used some with my blocks that I made today before I squared them up, and what a difference!
It’s great stuff. As for the smell, my smeller prefers the unscented and I’ve had to opt for the gallon size for awhile now.
I must admit I’ve never tried starch, but I keep reading raves about it. I guess I should really give it a try, shouldn’t I?!
