It’s here! The Parallels quilt pattern book has officially arrived from the printer and I’m so thrilled to get to share this book with you!
Parallels is designed by Elizabeth Ancell and published with my pattern company, Empty Bobbin Sewing Studio. It’s a 28 page, 8.5″ x 11″ book and features instructions and layouts for six different quilts in SIX sizes each. Do the math and you’ll see that 36 quilts are packed into this book!
Elizabeth is, in my opinion, completely brilliant. She was thoughtful about fabric cutting, layout, illustrations and included some great tips for getting those angled points to match up perfectly. Her clean lines are so striking! Paired with the photography of Lauren Hunt, who took all of these images, it’s one awesome pattern book if you ask me.
Let’s take a tour around the pattern!
Each quilt design includes instructions for baby, lap, twin, full, queen and king (Phew!) and we had testers make up samples of each design, in a variety of sizes. Full size template pieces are included and are super easy to work with. And the piecing goes SO quickly!
The Wishbone design might be my favorite. Elizabeth pieced and quilted this king sized sample. Those curved corners appear often in her quilts and she included instructions for that option in the pattern! Her sample is made from In The Beginning Modern Solids (Cream and Slate and bound in Lead)
You might recall my previous post where I shared a sample I made for Carrie Bloomston’s booth at Market. I used her new Paint Collection for Windham. Looks so fun in those prints, I think!
The Stadium Seating design was tested by Kristin Marciniak in the twin size and quilted by Jessica Toye. This sample is also made from In The Beginning Modern Solids (Sea and Chartreuse and bound in Robin’s Egg).
Paula Leber, a long-time tester for my patterns, pieced and quilted the twin size of the Portal Doors design. It’s made from Robert Kaufman Kona Solids (Graphite, Lagoon, Amber and bound in Cedar).
The Slingshots design was tested and quilted by my mom! (My go-to tester!) She made the full size in Robert Kaufman Kona Solids (Blue, Valentine, Salmon, Shale and bound in Berry). I’m not sure I’ll want to return it to her. Eleanor loves it!
The Zigzag Arrows design was tested and quilted by Marilyn Butler in the lap size. She used Moda Bella Solids (in Etchings Stone, Steel, Etchings Slate and bound in Horizon Blue).
(I realllly love that image above! Lauren did such a great job with the styling and photos. Can I say, again, how much I love working with her?!)
I tested the baby size of the Checkered Lightning design and Jessica Toye quilted it. It’s made from more Kona Solids (Teal Blue, Fog and bound in Bonsai).
Phew! That’s a LOT of quilt photos!
If you’d like your own copy of the Parallels pattern, be sure to ask for it at your local quilt shop. At last check, Missouri Star Quilt Company has it in stock here. It’s shipping to my distributors now. If you’re local here in Kansas City, the Bernina store on Metcalf has a supply, too! The PDF version of the pattern is also available here. But that printed version is totally my favorite. Check it out:
I’d LOVE to know what colors and design you’d pick. Leave a comment and tell me, will you? Sophisticated and sleek like Elizabeth’s? Or maybe in some school or favorite team colors? Be sure to share images on Instagram and other social media sites with the hashtag #parallelsquilt so I can follow along and see what you’re up to!
I can’t wait to see what you make with this one!
